Arlo Leach Experience on the road
6 May 1997The Arlo Leach Experience is going strong, with bassist Aaron Kassover and percussionist Dave Fairbairn planning to join me for all of the next round of gigs. We'll be focusing on venues we've had the best shows at in the past, so if you're one of the regular fans who helped make these coffeehouses our favorites, don't let us down this time around!
TALE online writeup
2 May 1997While most of the print media is still talking about Sorry-go-round, the enhanced CD I released last January, Madison's online magazine of local culture, All-Info, is on top of things with a nice feature about the Arlo Leach Experience. When you get to the site, click the "In Focus" link, and check out the company we're keeping!
Best of the Guestbook
1 April 1997I've been passing my Guestbook around at shows for about four months now, and it's getting full of pretty fun stuff. To reward those fans who weren't too shy to contribute, and to give those of you who haven't seen the Guestbook a taste of what you're missing, I've added a "Best of the Guestbook" page to Arlotone Online. Remember, I'm being very selective in putting these examples online -- they were chosen from hundreds of Guestbook entries.
Arlo Leach Experience press info
18 March 19973/18/97The Arlotone publicity machine is gearing up for the new band's debut this week, so I've added the Arlo Leach Experience press release and promo photo to the Press page. While you're there, check out the latest of the great reviews that keep pouring in!
The band is named!
9 March 1997Now that we've settled on a name, I can proudly announce the upcoming debut of my new band, the Arlo Leach Experience. That's me plus fellow Madisonian Dave Fairbairn on percussion and former bandmate Aaron Kassover on bass. Our first appearance will be at the 3rd Coast coffeehouse in Clinton, Iowa on March 22, with a hometown show in Madison two weeks later -- April 4 at Eureka Joe's.
For now, the group will sound a lot like the songs on my recordings, but by summertime we hope to begin a gradual transition to electric music. In the meantime, please come and welcome my new bandmates.
Solo perks
9 March 1997Although I'm excited about the new band, I've also been thinking of what I like best about the solo shows I've been playing for the last two years. Here's a short list, in no particular order:
- Playing music your kids can listen to
- Playing music your grandma can listen to
- Playing in alcohol-free and, often, smoke-free environments
- Playing my last song unplugged for the last remaining table in the coffeehouse
- Eating free croissants after the show
- Reading my Guestbook after the show
- Making punked out high-schoolers smile in public
- Encouraging people to do creative and brave things of their own
Site revisions
4 March 1997Arlotone Online has finally given in to the pressure of conformity, and now sports a Recommended Links page. Have fun exploring, but don't get lost!
If you're using Netscape Navigator with the QuickTime plug-in, be sure to take advantage of the revised Song of the Month page. I've added an alternate page with an embedded sound file, which means you can control playback of the song using a controller that's right on the page. Embedding the sound file on the page also makes it easier to read the lyrics while you listen to the song; and you can even start playback of the sound file while it's still downloading.
If you know you're using Netscape but aren't sure whether the QuickTime plug-in is installed, select General Preferences from the Options menu, click the Helpers tab, and scroll until you find QuickTime Video. You may have the plug-in, but simply have to turn it on here. Otherwise, you can download it from Apple Computer. (And download Netscape 3, if you don't already have it, from Netscape.)
