Plugging Along...
10 Nov 1998After a couple months of making new contacts and exploring the opportunities for growth here in Chicago, I'm starting to get back to my more typical musicianly activities: I'm promoting my first gig as a Chicagoan; just printed up the next fan mailing; and am about to make copies of a new 3-song demo. Soon I'll turn my gig-booking machine on full power as well -- I'm looking forward to getting on the road again and playing for all of you!
Get Yer Band Stickers Here
10 Nov 1998I've been struggling with the "folk" label ever since I started playing solo shows four years ago. Most of my audiences agree -- I play something that's not quite folk music. But I think I've finally found a label I can live with: "rocket-fueled folk music." To celebrate, I've printed up stickers with this new motto, and I'll be sending one to everyone on my mailing list later this week. If you'd like to join my mailing list, just send me your address.
Late News, Future Plans
9 Oct 1998Yikes, I'm later than I've ever been for my monthly update. Apologies to my devoted readers -- there are about 200 of you a month, by the way, according to the site statistics.
I don't have much news, as I've mainly been getting settled here in Chicago. But I am beginning to sketch out the gig situation for the next few months. You can expect a couple Chicago shows before Christmas, followed by a full string of shows in all my old haunts starting in mid-January. I'll keep you posted as things shape up.
Hot Roddin'
9 Oct 1998After enduring years of ridicule about my decaying old car, I've finally let it go and acquired a new gigmobile! You'll now find me arriving at shows in the relative comfort of a 1990 Subaru station wagon, which has plenty of room for equipment, and four-wheel drive for snowy nights. Giddyup! I just wish ARLOTONE would fit on an Illinois license plate....
Sweet Home Chicago
1 Sept 1998My more observant readers will already have noticed a change in the front-page text. That's right, I've recently up and moved to the big city of Chicago! It's noisy and expensive, but so far quite fun as well. Now that I've finished up my summer gigs, I'll be looking for places to play in the metro area, so check back for show dates in the next month or two.
Speaking of shows, my potentially exhausting summer schedule ended on a high note, with a run of particularly successful shows in late August. From bassist James and myself, thanks to everyone who came out to see us, bought CDs, and requested encores.
Is that you?
1 Sept 1998My other big news for the month is that I've finally bitten the bullet and cut off most of my hair. Now I wish I'd done it a year ago! Click here for revealing before and after photos so you can recognize me at my next show.
Back online
1 Sept 1998Between moving and gigs, I wasn't home enough in August to do my regular site updates. But I'm back online now, and have just updated my calendar and Song of the Month pages. Enjoy.
