Well, I can't see around this problem
I just can't make it add up
On one side the numbers are all on the run
And on the other they're hopelessly stuck
Mathematicians can't solve it, and I am not counting on luck
Well, one might save everybody from drowning
Then throw us back out to sea
Another one tries to rationalize
He wants that job desperately
It all ends up seeming pretty insincere to me
Oh, what have we done?
It's as if we're afraid of the sun
And oh, where will it end?
Why must you people pretend?
In the back of my mind there's a cabin
A tiny place just for me
The path to the door, the simple decor
It's all obscured by the trees
As much as I'd like it, I know it's not meant to be
It's an enormous room that we live in,
With all-encompassing girth
But the ceiling ain't sky, and between you and I,
What are electric stars worth?
Comfort ain't freedom, and this room, it ain't the earth
Oh, what have we done?
It's as if we're afraid of the sun
And oh, where will it end?
Why must you people pretend?
